VISION
The S.O.W.N. vision is to support you in breaking a generational cycle of chronic diseases through nutrition education and practical solutions.
Beginnings
I am a native San Antonian. I attended Sam Houston State University for both my undergrad and graduate degree. After graduating with my Master’s, I went on to work for a hospital for 4 years, did contract work for a few home health companies, some long term care and have worked in dialysis for 9+ years.
Aside from being a dietitian, I’m also a military spouse and mother to my 2 kids. I enjoy cooking, binge watching tv, traveling, listening to podcast and playing games.
Nutrition is my passion and my purpose. I really enjoy what I do. No one is perfect and nutrition can be challenging so I try to lend grace, empathy, and a caring approach. I strive to be the type of healthcare worker I would want myself or my family to have.
Goals
My goal is to assist you on your health journey by using the 4s:
Simple: whether dealing with a chronic disease or if you are trying to eat a more balance diet, nutrition should be simple. Complex and complicated changes can lead to lack of motivation and you feeling overwhelmed. So we want to keep it simple, easy, and lead by you.
Satisfying: A lot of times when someone is diagnosed with a chronic disease or trying to make changes to eat a more balanced diet there is a feeling that the satisfaction and enjoyment we can get from food is no longer possible. That in order for food to be “healthy” or for us to have a healthy relationship with food it must be bland and boring. As we work together you will see that healthy eating does not have to look a certain way and you are still able to have a variety of flavorful and satisfying foods.
Safe: Being diagnosed with a chronic disease or trying to manage your weight or even trying to prevent the development of health issues can lead some to want to take extreme measure to achieve the goals they have set. Nutrition should not be harmful. Our goal is to help you achieve your health goals (in a safe manner) and stay safe doing it.
Supportive: When managing your health, it can sometimes feel like you are all alone on this journey. We are here to provide support to you as you are managing your health as well as help you with the tools to build a support system outside of your health care team.
My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive, and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style.
